Part 2 Exegesis of the Psalm 121:5-8 songs of ascents
Happy fall feast season! This post is a continuation of the exegesis of psalm 121. PLease read part 1 first if you have not already. this post is a little long winded but hopefully a thoughtful read! In this post we will spend a good amount of time pouring over the expressions in each of the verses. When looking at the poem in English we see 16 lines, 8 verses, 4 tetrastich and 2 intentions. Each pair of verses made a statement, they are: A] vs1-2: The Lord is my Help, B] vs3-4: The Lord instructs/leads me, C] vs5-6: The Lord guards my affairs and doings, D] vs7-8: The Lord preserves me life. So we see i n the first pair of verses YHWH is called one's 'help' with the word ezri. But i n the other 3 pair of verses, YHWH is specifically called protector /keeper/preserver with the word Shomer/Yishmor.
